Thailand Legalises Cannabis Trade                      But Not Recreational Usage

Thailand has removed marijuana from its list of prohibited substances. The kingdom is the first country in Southeast Asia to legalize marijuana. However, recreational usage is still prohibited. The government has posted a warning against smoking in public places, threatening those who do so with arrest.

The government hopes the development of a local cannabis trade will benefit agriculture and tourism. Households can grow up to six cannabis plants if they register with authorities, and businesses can do so with a permit. Restaurants can serve cannabis-infused food and drinks while clinics countrywide can offer cannabis as a treatment.

Thailand’s stated goal is to get a head start on its neighbours in gaining a large portion of the profitable market for cannabis derivative-based health treatments. However, there is another motivation, which is to reduce overcrowding in some of the world’s busiest prisons. According to the new scheme, around 4,000 prisoners convicted of cannabis-related offences will be released.

Jackson Wang will Perform                                  at Liverpool vs. Man U in July

On July 12th, Jackson Wang will be the opening show for Bangkok’s The Match Century Cup 2022 at Rajamangala Stadium. Two English Premier League football teams – Manchester United and Liverpool – will meet off in a match dubbed the “Red War” by Thai football fans because of the clubs’ colours.

The rapper will play a one-hour set from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to the match. The idea to invite Wang is being interpreted as an attempt by the match organiser to attract non-football fans to buy the remaining tickets.

Jackson Wang, a former member of South Korean boy band GOT7, recently performed at Coachella with Thai rapper Milli.
